Whether you celebrate Christmas or not, this time of year can be very overwhelming and equipped2succeed are keen to support those that find this time of year difficult and challenging.
A wonderful celebration of the diverse cultures of Nottingham at the Culture Festival on the 25th of July 2021!
Last month we welcomed the return to our equipped2succeed programmes and what a wonderful month it has been!
On Monday the 17th of May, we started our 2nd Online Men’s Programme of the year.
Our first few sessions have been attended by a great mix of Nottingham men, from young men finishing college and figuring out what’s next, to men in their 40’s looking to find new purpose, and plenty of others finding themselves in a variety of situations.
What makes the difference between you and the person next to you in work, school, college, university, at an interview, when going for promotion, sitting on the bus? What makes the difference is our Attitudes, Mindsets and Behaviours.
The process of us deciding to buy something can in some cases hold similarities to the process some of us go through before seeking advice, support and resources to look after our wellbeing and health.
Creating positive habits in lockdown. Creating a habit is about making significant changes to our behaviours, but it doesn’t have to feel like a huge shift all at once. Focus on changing one small behaviour which you know, or you think, will have a positive knock-on effect.
Everything we do starts with a thought.
Every solution depends on us creatively using our thinking.
Every reaction to a situation, positive or negative, is controlled in our brain.
Every conversation is guided by our thinking.
Everything we feel emanates from our mind.
Everything we believe about ourselves is in our mind.
We’ve had grade hyperbole over the past few weeks and I really don’t want to add to that. It is alarming that an organisation like Ofqal hasn’t got the wisdom and sense to question grades that seem out of sync with previous years or predict the impact on young people and teachers of their systems, processes, actions and outcomes….
Does your thinking serve you well?

Our brain controls our every function and everything we do starts with a thought.
How better to respond to our times by thinking about how we really want our lives to be?
Improving our conversations enables us to more effectively use our knowledge, skills and experience to create the world we want. Let’s create more conversations that serve us well, serve our goals and passions, serve those around us, serve our organisations and serve our communities well.
I must admit, despite my knowledge and experience when it comes to dealing with stress, Covid hit me for 6 and caused a significant stress response which I haven’t experienced in a while.
‘We live in the world our conversations create.’ David L. Cooperrider
This is so true, and it is worth doing everything we can to enable those conversations to create the sort of world we want to live in.
For me mental wellbeing starts with learning. In my opinion the most useful things you will learn in life are about yourself, your body, your mind and your values. The exciting (and challenging) thing is we are continually changing and adapting, so there’s always something new to learn.

I can’t fix the challenges we face right now and I certainly can’t control the outcomes still to come. What I am lucky enough to be able to do is take responsibility for me and my wellbeing. Physical and mental.
I want to share with you my go to strategy for combating low mood, feelings of nervousness and / or anxiousness, lack of motivation, lack of interest in doing anything and inability to find joy in things that usually I’d be buzzing about.
Three things that I talk about a lot, personally and professionally and as always during Mental Health Awareness week conversations around mental health increase, which is great!
Sleeping well and maintaining energy levels throughout the day.
These 5 steps have really worked for me. I’d recommend trying 1 or 2 at a time and seeing what suits you best.
Remaining positive is a mental skill that we can practise, and like with any other skill, we use it or lose it. Sometimes it’s more challenging than others and we need to consciously practice it daily to reap the benefits for our overall happiness and wellbeing.
Everything we do starts with a thought.
Everything we don’t do starts with a thought.
‘Change your thoughts and you change your world’ Norman Vincent Peale
Our brain controls our every function and everything we do starts with a thought.
Wellbeing is gradually taking its rightful place as a priority in our lives. For me, this means looking at ourselves in the round; whole people living whole lives.
Success is often linked with celebrity, academic grades, winning in sports, how far we get up the career ladder and money.
All of those are valid but in my view it’s vital that we define what success means for us in a holistic way, in all areas of our life.
Over the past year or so I’ve had my own ‘four weddings and a funeral’ year and, together with a health challenge, I have learned more about the true meaning of emotional roller coaster, and how to rebalance to maintain holistic wellbeing.
